Linux is fast becoming the OS to watch as more and more of the media cover this relative newcomer. I have added this section for those new or interested in this alternative to Windows.

My first real experience was when I installed Red Hat 6.1 out of the box onto an IBM P90 with 64mb ram and 4gig hard disk without any problems. Later I installed a network card which gave me a hard time. I should have installed it before putting Linux on.

I then got the Star Office office suite from Sun (FREE in those days) and installed it, again without any problems. The compatibility with Microsoft products is excellent.

I have since created several Red Hat and SuSe servers and workstations without major problems.

The speed and multitasking are very impressive and, so far, not one crash even when I have been messing with the core.

I have now moved on through SuSe 7.2 / 3 and now 8.2 and tried other flavours out of interest. Suse 8 works well on my Toshiba Portege 7020CT as well with dual boot. Also installed on a Toshiba 3000x4.

This is not the definitive site, just a sampler with links to more interesting areas. Good luck !
